Volumetric Survey

A Volumetric Survey is the comparison of two or more topographical survey results conducted at different points in time. Volumetric Surveys can be required for a number of reasons, for example is for the subdivision of land for new tunnel infrastructure or a building that sits over transport infrastructure.

An example of this is the Gabba Stadium.

On one side of the stadium, the building structure protrudes above the road where a subdivision of the road was required to exclude the area of road that the stadium uses.

Volumetric Surveys are required to be connected to the Australian Height Datum (AHD) and show heights at ground level and the upper and lower extents of a parcel. A field survey is completed similar to a subdivision; however, marks may not be placed. In the instance of the Gabba stadium the upper extents are above the structure, therefore, no marks can be placed.

Once the field survey has been completed a survey plan is then completed and delivered.

As part of the deliverables, we would also provide a 3D diagram, heights at all levels and a 2-dimensional view. Volumetric Surveys are generally more complex to prepare and survey than other types of surveys.
